Rolls-Royce marked the centennial of the Phantom this year. All eight iterations of the Phantom, from I to VIII, were present on the lawn of The Lodge at Pebble Beach for Pebble Beach Automotive Week, and the gathering was preserved for posterity in both photos and videos.
Phantoms 1 through VI later took to the show field to compete in the main Concours competition, while Phantoms VII and VIII were displayed at home nearby.
The gathering came together in partnership with Rolls-Royce and with the strong support of Concours Chief Honorary Class Judge Stephen Brauer (an ardent enthusiast of the marque) and several Concours entrants, who brought their elegant automotive creations to share here.
Brauer’s Phantom IV, bearing a Hooper Landaulet body, eventually won the Lucius Beebe Trophy. Code named “Jubilee” it was built specifically for Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh on the 50th anniversary of Rolls-Royce. The Queen’s yacht “Britannia” was designed to accommodate it, and it was used all over the world. Brauer also shared a Phantom V bodied by James Young as a Sedanca—one of just four right-hand drive touring limousines.
Class winners were as follows: The 1929 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Brewster Ascot Phaeton of Nicholas & Shelley Schorsch of the Audrain Collection placed first; the 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental Gurney Nutting Sedanca Drophead Coupé of Peter Reynolds place second; and the 19937 Rolls-Royce Phantom III H.J. Mulliner Sedanca de Ville of The Nethercutt Collection placed third.
