Verstappen Dominates Japanese GP for Fourth Consecutive Victory

SUZUKA, Japan — Max Verstappen secured his first victory of the 2025 Formula 1 season after soaking up race-long pressure from McLarens.

Verstappen got off to a solid start from pole position and maintained a respectable advantage over the McLarens in the early going. Drama then broke out during the pit stop phase when Norris, who had pitted on the same lap as the Dutchman, attempted to go side-by-side at the pit exit due to the Dutchman’s somewhat sluggish stop, forcing the McLaren driver to take to the grass while Verstappen stayed ahead. Even though both drivers expressed their displeasure with the collision on the team radio, the stewards decided not to look into it, and Verstappen continued to lead Norris as the race went on, closing the gap to the Briton. But when Piastri closed in on Norris in the last ten circuits, the struggle intensified, and the latter quickened his pace and begin to cut into Verstappen’s advantage. It was ultimately not enough, though, with Verstappen crossing the line ahead of Norris to claim his 64th Grand Prix victory.
