Martinsville NASCAR weekend sees penalty flags
Penalties fly after NASCAR’s Martinsville weekend

Due to Shane van Gisbergen’s right rear wheel coming off during last weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville, two members of his No. 88 Trackhouse Racing team have been penalized.

Sections 8.8.10.4.A & C of the NASCAR rulebook, which addresses the loss or separation of an incorrectly installed tire or wheel from the vehicle during the event, will cause Jackman Aslan Pugh and tire changer JonPatrik Kealy to miss the next two races.

Even though that was the only penalty resulting from the Martinsville Cup race, the Xfinity Series was a completely different story. Leading the way in that regard was Sammy Smith of JR Motorsports, who was fined $25,000 and lost 50 driver points for crashing into Taylor Gray on the last lap.

Haas Factory Team was fined $5,000 for an unsecured lug nut on Sheldon Creed’s No. No.00 car, and Gray and Jeb Burton were fined $5,000 each for confronting other drivers in the infield care center following the race. An identical infraction resulted in an identical fine for Spire Motorsports’ No. No.71 Truck of Rajah Caruth, marking the only post-race penalty for the Truck Series from the weekend.
