Frye will oversee operations for the team’s participation in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and NTT IndyCar Series and will answer directly to team ownership.

Additionally, the team declared that Steve Eriksen, who served as the organization’s chief operating officer since January 2023, had left the company.

“First of all, I want to thank Steve Eriksen for everything he did for us, especially during a pivotal period for the company. We definitely wish him the best of luck in his next endeavor,” Bobby Rahal, team co-owner alongside David Letterman and Mike Lanigan, said. Having Jay Frye join the team as president of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing makes me very happy. I have spent a lot of time with him since he first entered the IndyCar scene in 2013, and I find his character and enthusiasm for the sport to be admirable. I am excited to collaborate with him in the future to move RLL in the direction that we all desire.

Frye has over 30 years of experience, having led teams and series in marketing, sales, ownership, and competition.

“Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing has a tremendous history of success, both on and off the track,” Frye stated. “I am very proud to be joining RLL’s dedicated and talented team. RLL has the foundation, infrastructure, and unwavering commitment to remain successful well into the future.”

Following his February 11 release from IndyCar, Frye weighed an array of offers and possibilities that ranged from domestic series to Formula 1, but chose RLL as his next destination due to the need and fit within the Zionsville, Indiana-based team.

The timing of the move is critical for RLL because its owners have been looking for a reputable industry executive to lead the organization into the future and make the necessary improvements to restore the competitiveness of its IndyCar program.
