The P-51 was the best American fighter of WWII.

The P-51 was the first allied fighter plane to attack targets in Germany in 1942. The early versions (Mustang Mk I, Mark II, P-51A, and A-36 Apache dive bomber) were all faster, more agile and had greater range than RAF Spitfires of the same period below 15,000 feet.

How would these Spitfires fare against the American P-51 Mustang? The North American Aviation P-51 Mustang is an American long-range, single-seat fighter and fighter-bomber used during World War II and the Korean War, among other conflicts. These were the greatest fighters of World War II, according to Capt. Eric “Winkle” Brown, who flew all of these aircraft and is arguably one of the greatest pilots in history.
